Lake Tahoe – MLK Weekend

For our first getaway in 2015, JC and I, along with our friend AM, decided to go to Tahoe for a non-skiing, non-snowboarding MLK weekend. Don’t worry, we still enjoyed the snow!

We left  San Francisco early in the morning on Saturday and luckily had no traffic on the drive to South Lake Tahoe. After checking into our hotel, The Landing Resort & Spa, we went to Heavenly Village for lunch at Basecamp Pizza. Based on our waiter’s recommendations, we split the thai curry chicken pizza, which was delicious. We were planning on going tubing afterwards, but upon hearing that tickets were sold out for the day, we decided to take a drive to the Nevada side of Tahoe.

Out first stop was Bonsai Rock. A word of caution, there is no signage for this spot and there is no clear path down to the rock, so I would highly recommend wearing appropriate shoes and having someone else go with you. JC really enjoyed climbing the boulders and we got some amazing pictures.

Back at our hotel, we had a relaxing evening at the hot tub and the saunas, finished with some face scrubs.

Not wanting to miss out on tubing again, we headed to the Heavenly Gondola earlier on Sunday morning. On the way up, we stopped at the Observation Deck and the continued on up to Adventure Peak, where the tubing was. Tubing sessions are $30 for an hour. We enjoyed spinning our way down and racing each other down the hill.

I’ll end this post with three questions we asked on our drive back to San Francisco:

  • If you could choose one music concert to go to, what artist would it be?
  • If you could choose one sporting event to go to, what event would it be?
  • If you could choose one television show taping/filming, what would it be?
