I recently celebrated a close friend’s birthday with a wine picnic at Malibu Wines Tasting Room. It was one of the first weekends in spring and the weather was fantastic! There was live music and it felt great to be able to head into the mountains and get away from Los Angeles for the afternoon. Malibu Wines is about 25 miles northwest of Santa Monica and 45 miles northwest of downtown LA. The setting at Malibu Wines is completely outdoors with plenty of tables, chairs, umbrellas, and long benches. We never felt crowded with other parties or that people were waiting for us to finish. The wine bar area is easily accessible and there is a wide range of wine to choose from. Malibu Wines also offers wine flights for those who want to sample a bit before settling on a particular bottle to purchase. There is no admission fee, but there is a minimum of one bottle purchase for a party of 4. My friend was thoughtful enough and packed a picnic box per person with sandwiches, fruit, chips, and dessert. I couldn’t imagine a nicer way to spend a Sunday spring afternoon.
Some tips: Bring your own water. Malibu Wines offers shuttle service to a free parking lot further up the road.
Cheers to a great afternoon with great weather, great food, great wine, and great company!
